drains

Roof gutters, garbage disposals, sinks, and toilets… all of them play a role in our drainage moments at home and in the office. Let’s do a quick check to make sure you are properly caring for all of them so your money doesn’t go.. down the drain! Pun intended.

GUTTERS

Once the storms pass in Spring, your gutters can get clogged with wet debris from the trees. Nesting pets love situations like that and so does mold- not good! You can do this task yourself or hire a professional to get it done efficiently and effectively.

SINKS

Bacteria, mold, leaks and stagnant water can fester for a while if you don’t take notice of cleaning out sinks and tubs. Obviously making sure you do not put anything down your drains but what is intended to go down them is the best precautionary measure, but we all need a little reminding every now and then. The sink is not a trash can and should only allow things like toothpaste, water, soap and cleaners to make their way through your pipes. If you want to take it a step up, you can put a DIY cleaner down them: 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup of salt and pour this into the drain. Add 1 cup of warm vinegar and then rinse with hot water. This little trick may help!

GARBAGE DISPOSALS

Often times people will put things down here that do not belong. It is NOT a trash can. Be careful when you are rinsing out things like your coffee pot components,  and cookware with grease, fats, and oils in them. Your disposal is intended to handle things like small scraps of food that come off your plate on the way to the dishwasher.

TOILETS

STOP flushing baby wipes! Step #1. Do not flush paper towels, feminine products, or anything else that cannot be easily pushed through a drain!
